Madaket
3Buoys is located in "Old" Madaket, which is approximately 5 miles
from the center of town. Madaket is known for its beautiful
beaches, great fishing and the most gorgeous sunsets on the island.
It is the original fishing village of Nantucket. Old Madaket is a
geographically small area that runs along Hither Creek and consists
of about 300 Cape Cod-style cottages. There is a laid-back quiet
beachside community feeling in Old Madaket. It is "old" fashioned
in the nicest sense of the word.
There
are a few commercial establishments in Madaket-- Madaket Marine; the
Westender, a small convenience market and Millie’s, a great local place
with yummy takeout as well as a full bar and restaurant.
Nantucket has excellent public transportation and there is a bus stop
just up the street from the cottage on Madaket Road. The bus runs on the
half-hour from early in the morning until late at night. You can even
take your bike on the bus and visit the other side of the island to
explore.
Madaket
Harbor is easily accessed from the town boat ramp, which is
approximately .3 miles from the 3Buoys. This is the only boat ramp for
trailerable boats on the West End of the island. Hither Creek and
Madaket Harbor are perfect for kayaking and sailing small boats. Kayaks
can also be launched directly into Hither Creek from the path across
from side yard of 3Buoys. The creek is less than 100 yards from the
house.
